Bronze Spirals
These earring were time-consuming to make. As you can see, I spiral-wrapped the entire frame of the earrings... I'd never done any wrapping quite as thoroughly as this pair so it was new territory for me. I would fix or change things the next time I made a pair in this way, but I really love these earrings (I usually am fond of a first-time creation). The colors are so Autumny and rich. And if you admire them from a distance you can't see all the flaws! So don't get too close, k?

Tourmaline Cubicles
Alright, nice to see everyone again. I am back with a recently created pair of earrings. Rather simple, a little bit on the classy-business side. All together nothing too exciting but I figured I'd share anyways.
The rectangle was hand-shaped by your truly (if you looked closely you can see that it is indeed hand-shaped). The dangling stones are Tourmaline I think. I got the strand at a bead show in California quite a while ago and am just now getting around to using them so I can't exactly be sure, but Tourmaline sounds good to me. The downside to these earrings is that it doesn't take too much pressure to bend them out of shape so one has to be careful while handling or wearing them. But hey, I can always bend them back into shape I guess, so it's not so bad. Enjoy!

Ocean Pearls
Hello again! Haven't posted any real creations in a few months because I'm a slacker, but here we go. I actually made these about a month ago - just never took any pictures before now. And the pictures make them look vibrantly blue! Which is quite nice, but not quite true. Yes, they are a nice bright blue, but not as blue as the photos turned out. I won't complain though, I like the effect!
I made them with some cheapo hoop earrings and silver colored wire. I just... started wrapping really. Add a bead, wrap the wire, add a bead, wrap the wire, etcetera, until it ended up as a little web of beads. I actually undid the first pair I made and started over because I wrapped the beads so close together. When I put them on they were just too heavy for my delicate little ears to handle. So the second time around I added half the beads to each earring, and although they're still a bit heavy it's much more bearable!

Antique Lavender
Another pair of earrings! My beading "specialty" tends to be earrings so that's what you'll see most of when I get down to business. I started out the day attempting to make a necklace, but some how I turned to earrings... But I'm quite happy with them! They turned out similarly to those wire-wrapped earrings I was referring to in an earlier post. They aren't nearly as extravagant and beautiful, but it's a start!
They aren't made from any special supplies - just silver colored wire that's been sitting around long enough to tarnish a bit. The pearls aren't anything special either. The larger beads are some sort of semi-precious stone, but I just don't remember which one! I'm terrible with gem-stone identification... They're just a tad heavy, but I managed to go a good 5 hours before my ears started complaining. That's the only drawback to big beautiful earrings. They're usually on the heavy side. But I like mine!

Hard Candy
I whipped out the beads yesterday after being inspired by some fantastic artists I found on Etsy:

They all have absolutely amazing and beautiful pieces! And I noticed that they all used a technique/style that I haven't really seen much of before. It appears to be a form of wire wrapping or wire sculpture where you take a thin wire, coil it all the way around a thicker wire and then shape it into any shape that pleases you. It's like making your own earring components in any shape you'd like. I personally think the style is gorgeous! Couple it with the sparkly stones they can afford to use in their designs and you have jewelry fit for royalty.
So! As you've probably figured out, I wanted to have a go at this. I was sure I had some left over 18 or 20 gauge wire somewhere. But being sure doesn't always equal reality! So unfortunately I didn't get to go crazy with wire wrapping. I decided I would at least try to make something without using headpins though. I would just use wrapped wire to hold my beads in place. I think it came out pretty nicely in the end!
I used gold-colored wire and findings (I can't afford the good stuff), some purple-y Czech beads as accent beads, and I'm not sure what the main rectangle-shaped beads are. I think they're probably rhodochrosite or rhodonite or something, but I honestly can't remember. They're about 5.5 cm long, not including the ear hook. I had fun (and frustration) playing with the wire and figuring out exactly what I wanted them to look like and I'm pleased with the results!
